Summary
The Museum of Cavaion Veronese opened in 1990 thanks to the joint commitment of the Regional board for the protection of cultural heritage (Soprintendenza per i Beni Archeologici del Veneto), of the Municipal Administration of Cavaion and of the City Museum of Natural History of Verona, collects archaeological items coming from the field walking activities carried out in the area of Benaco. The building, divided into three exhibition rooms, is considered the museum of the whole district and gathers the materials dating back to the Bronze and Roman Age.
Collection history
The accidental finding in 1980 of a prehistoric village laid down along the edges of an intermorenic lake, spurred several important research activities in the region of Cavaion Veronese. Such surveys carried out between 1981 and 1987 by the Regional board for the protection of cultural heritage (Soprintendenza per i Beni Archeologici del Veneto), led in 1990 to the establishment of a small city museum where the archaeological finds collected during the field walking activities nearby Cà Nova are displayed. The subsequent finding of a large slab in Cavaion, during some farming operations has brought to the discovery of a Roman necropolis whose most important pieces were enhanced in 1995 by creating an exhibition room fully dedicated to the cemetery of Bossema.
